The Earl of Shining

In the quaint village of Hampton, there lived an old soldier named Michael, known far and wide as the Earl of Shining. Michael had once been a master archer and a formidable warrior. His prowess in battle was legendary, a trait passed down through generations of renowned fighters in his family. However, with age catching up to him, Michael had hung up his weapons, no longer wishing to fight.

One day, while hunting in the forest, Michael came across a beautiful prophetess singing a hymn. She called out to him, “Michael, an evil army conspires to seize control of Hampton. You are the only one who can defeat them and stop their tyranny. The village needs you!”

Michael hesitated, “But I’m too old to fight! I don’t believe I can do it.”

The prophetess smiled and said, “You must try. I will brew a potion to enhance your strength.”

She took out a bottle and a funnel, pouring in vinegar and garlic. Then she added some seasoning and sodium, shaking it all up.

Michael sniffed the potion. “Wow, this smells…fragrant,” he remarked sarcastically. Nonetheless, he inverted the bottle and drank it all. Immediately, he felt a surge of strength. “I’ll try my best,” he promised.

Michael mounted his horse and rode to a hilltop, overlooking the village of Hampton. From there, he saw the evil tyrant and his men marching through the town.

With renewed vigor, Michael charged down the hill and into the village. An enemy officer exclaimed, “He looks as strong as an ox!” It was an apt analogy. Michael seized the officer and hurled him across the street with one arm. The rest of the soldiers screamed and fled, with their army following in panic.

The prophetess reappeared. Michael said, “It’s a good thing you gave me that potion.”

She replied, “But Michael, the potion was a fake! Your strength came from your confidence!”

Michael realized then that he still possessed his great strength. He just needed to believe in himself.

You can. Believe in yourself!
