Ncumisa Selani Sentenced to Three Life Terms for Triple Murder
In 2016, Ncumisa Selani discovered that her boyfriend, Michael Changisa from Malawi, had infected her with HIV. Enraged, she contacted her other boyfriend, Michael Phiri from Zimbabwe, asking him to help “eliminate” Changisa. Phiri carried out the act, and they buried Changisa’s body in Selani’s yard.
Phiri moved in with Ncumisa and her two sons, aged 17 and 10, the following year. However, Phiri became abusive, leading Ncumisa and her 17-year-old son to kill him. They buried his body on top of Changisa’s grave.
By 2018, Ncumisa’s 17-year-old son had developed a serious drug addiction. He frequently blackmailed his mother, demanding money for drugs and threatening to expose the murder of Phiri. Desperate to silence him, Ncumisa killed her son and buried him on top of Phiri’s body.
In 2020, Ncumisa’s younger son, now 14 years old, fell ill. They sought help from a traditional healer, and the boy confessed to the healer about the three murders that had occurred in their home, believing they were connected to his sickness. Alarmed by the confession, the traditional healer reported the matter to the police.
Ncumsia was arrested later that year. After her trial, the Pretoria High Court sentenced her to three life terms for the murders of her two boyfriends and her eldest son, committed between 2016 and 2018.
