Melania Trump Dress at Jimmy Carter’s Funeral Sparks Controversy

As Melania Trump prepares to return to the White House as First Lady, her appearance at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral caught public attention due to her striking outfit.

The state funeral, held at the Washington National Cathedral, was attended by several prominent figures, including Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, President Joe Biden, and their spouses. Donald and Melania Trump were also present.

Melania’s choice of attire—a black Valentino trench coat with a Peter Pan-style collar featuring a “rose-kiss” print inspired by a 19th-century sculpture by Auguste Rodin—sparked a mix of reactions online. According to Women’s Wear Daily, this distinctive print was part of Valentino’s fall 2019 collection.

While some praised her look, others were less impressed. Comments ranged from “She found an appropriate black dress this time” to more critical remarks comparing her outfit to a pilgrim’s attire or a nun’s habit.

Public scrutiny of Melania’s fashion choices is not new. In 2017, she faced criticism for wearing a $51,000 Dolce & Gabbana floral coat to the G7 summit, equivalent to an average American household’s annual income. Another infamous moment was her visit to a migrant facility in Texas, where she wore a jacket with the phrase “I DON’T CARE, DO U?”—a decision that drew widespread backlash and complicated efforts to improve the administration’s image.

Adding to the emotional weight of the event, Melania appeared unusually somber. The funeral coincided with the first anniversary of her mother, Amalija Knavs’ passing. Amalija, who died at 78, left behind a legacy of love and warmth, deeply missed by her family.

Despite the controversy, Melania’s fashion choices continue to make headlines, leaving the public divided in their opinions.
