Imagine The City

Close your eyes. Come on, believe me, and do it. Okay, now visualize a bustling city with beautiful skies. An orange dawn, the brightest blue sky you can imagine, and a breathtaking orange sunset. The air around you is filled with laughing. The people are kind and courteous of one another; they happily go out of their way to help someone in need. This… This is what everyone wants in life.

Blink.

The once beautiful city is now in ruin. The lovely sky is filled with menacing dark clouds that do not appear to be leaving anytime soon. The buildings are on fire, and red-hot embers are spinning into the air. People are shouting and pleading for aid, but no one responds. They’re all fleeing with nowhere to go; their homes have vanished. Now it’s just chunks of debris. The city of your dreams has been destroyed and is now only a distant memory.

No.

Stop, don’t open your eyes yet.

I SAID NO!

You open your eyes, and the voice in your mind vanishes, but the memory remains. Your house is right in front of you. Your city. It’s ablaze. You hear screams and beg for help. People are hurriedly sprinting past you, and you can barely feel the wave of people pushing you aside to rescue themselves.

Suddenly, the voice comes back. “You shouldn’t have opened your eyes. It’s too late.”
